LAPLACE — The Right Choice Project is hosting the second annual Precious Gems Award “Celebration of Phenomenal Women” at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Choice the Events Place, 516 E. Airline Highway in LaPlace.
The Champions Banquet is an honorarium ceremony for black women who have made tremendous contributions to their communities and raised the awareness of HIV/AIDS.
The Right Choice Project is a group of health care professionals and health care business professionals that provide free rapid HIV testing, counseling, education, literature, condoms and transportation to those suffering from the disease in the River Parishes.
One of the goals of The Right Choice Project is to raise the rural community’s awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic through education, testing and social activities.
The Master of Ceremony and guest speaker this year is Antoine M. Jasmine. Honorees are DeLisa Brown, Rita Mae Johnson, Dolores Cutno Sampson and Beverly Dinvault Harris.
Each honoree is given a special tribute on their accomplishments and influence in the community.
There is a silent auction open to the public featuring items from local businesses. Those who wish to donate can contact The Right Choice Project.
All of the proceeds go toward people living with HIV/AIDS and improving health care in the community. Proceeds benefit educational HIV/AIDS program, HIV/AIDS test kits and supplies and provide resources to HIV/AIDS positive individuals.
Tickets are available for purchase and will be available the day of the event. For more information, call Clinical Coordinator Danis Walker at 985-651-7844.
