ESJ, DHS to rematch as girls basketball brackets announced

The girls basketball LHSAA playoff brackets were announced Sunday, and the field includes a number of district rematches for local teams.
Two River Region foes will square off for a third time this season when No. 4 seed Destrehan (23-2) hosts No. 29 seed East St. John (18-7) in the Class 5A playoffs. That game will be played 7 p.m. Friday night at Destrehan.
DHS won both previous matchups between the teams in District 7-5A competition, by scores of 60-39 and 94-53.
West St. John (24-5) earned the third seed in Class 1A and will host No. 30 Ascension Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday, pitting District 8-1A foes against one another for a third time.
The Rams won the previous two games, 54-29 and 57-34.
In Class 2A, Riverside Academy (19-7) draws the No. 11 seed and will host Haynes (19-12) Thursday at 5 p.m. The two teams faced off Jan. 14 at Haynes, which won a close 47-44 game.
St. James (11-17) will also compete in the Class 2A field, earning the No. 31 seed. It will travel to No. 2 Lake Arthur (24-5) to play 7 p.m. Thursday night.
