LAPLACE — Two St. John the Baptist Parish schools recently announced they were expanding their schooling outreach by growing services for younger students.

St. Joan of Arc School in LaPlace announced it will open a new preK 2 program for the 2015-16 school year.

The program will run during the standard school year with a teacher and assistant providing a loving, nurturing environment, school officials said, adding spiritual and social development will be the focus and children will follow a daily routine with a balance of playtime and age-appropriate learning activities.

The teacher and assistant at SJA will provide support and reinforcement of potty training efforts, officials said.

St. Peter Catholic School in Reserve recently announced it qualified for and is licensed as a class “A” daycare center.

Currently in its third year of operation and under the direction of Principal Marie Comeaux and instructor Celeste Toups, officials said the program has successfully operated and continues to keep up with learning trends.

“It is our mission that we exist to instill Catholic values and identity, encourage leadership and develop academic excellence in all of our students,” Comeaux said. “We do this daily, even with our prekindergarten students, by living out our motto, which is to live, love, and learn as Jesus did.”

St. Peter is expanding its prekindergarten program, which operates during a school calendar year, to operate throughout the entire calendar year.

Beginning in May, summer care will be available for prekindergarten students through 4 year olds. For more information, call 985-536-4296 or visit stpeterreserve.org.
