LAPLACE — Public meetings to discuss proposed plans for future trail development in St. John the Baptist Parish will be held Monday and Tuesday.

Parish officials and National Park Service representatives will facilitate the meetings, where they will present proposed plans for upcoming trail locations in the parish.

Officials said the goal is to build upon the parish’s foundational efforts, which focused on bike and pedestrian trails, and develop a plan for a more comprehensive trails system. That plan would integrate cycling and pedestrian paths with nature trails, water trails for kayaking and paddling and trails for equestrian use, among other outdoor activities, authorities said.

Baileigh Rebowe, parish public information officer, said the meetings will cover future development of trails in St. John that are an extension of the ongoing levee trails being implemented across the parish. She said proposed future locations for trails and walking paths in efforts to better and beautify the community will be discussed, and residents are invited to attend and provide feedback.

Monday’s meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the West Bank Community Center, located at 173 East 3rd St. in Edgard. Tuesday’s meeting is slated for 5 p.m. in the Percy Hebert Building’s Council Chambers, located at 1801 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.
