RESERVE — U.S. Marshals and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a man this week wanted for shooting his cousin.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Antonio Jones, 33, at 12:37 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 100 block of Homewood Place in Reserve.
Jones had been sought for a week following a shooting Dec. 30 in the 100 block of West 3rd Street in LaPlace.
When deputies arrived Dec. 30 at the scene, they found a 24-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his left leg. EMS treated the victim, taking him to a New Orleans area hospital.
Jones, the victim’s cousin, was named a suspect Dec. 31. According to Tregre, Jones initially fled the area on foot and was last seen near the intersection of West 2nd Street and Satsuma Street.
Following the shooting, Sgt. Dane Clement said the victim refused to cooperate with detectives investigating the altercation.
Tregre said the investigation revealed the victim was Jones’ intended target.
Detectives booked Jones with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon and illegal use of a weapon.
He remains in custody in lieu of a $70,000 bond, and authorities said Jones has been arrested 12 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since 1999.
