Sheriff promotes 2 in St. Charles Parish

HAHNVILLE — St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne recently announced he has promoted two employees to Captain.

Captain Donald Smith began his law enforcement career as a correctional officer in 1993. While in corrections, he worked in transportation, court security and court school before being assigned to the uniform patrol division.

There he served as a field training officer, attained the rank of corporal and was assigned as the assistant westbank supervisor. After nearly eight years of service in the patrol division, Smith was assigned to criminal investigation division, where he attained the rank of sergeant and lieutenant serving as commander of CID.

Smith is currently the assistant chief of investigations, covering criminal investigations division, crime scene investigations, juvenile investigations division, special investigations division, special operations division, hi-tech/cyber crimes division, juvenile justice division and is a U.S. Marshal’s Office liaison. Smith resides in Des Allemands and has two children, Bailey and Trevor.

Captain Chad Faucheux began his law enforcement career with the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office in 1995 in the patrol division.

In 1997 he was transferred to corrections under the command of Captain Roland Ladreyt; then to transportation, where he moved up the ranks to lieutenant.

In 2005 he was transferred to a special assignment of constructing the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office Shooting Range. Since that time, he has overseen several construction projects, including the construction of the Fleet Maintenance building, which he commands. Faucheux resides in Destrehan with his wife Nori and two sons, Luke and Logan.
