Keller: Alcohol claims victims from all walks of life

Many people with destructive personalities will go to any length to deceive themselves.
The marijuana user will be convinced that it is a harmless drug. It, in fact, is a dangerous drug that is the gateway to other mind-altering chemicals.
The most abused drug is alcohol. What makes the drug cunning, baffling and powerful is that it’s legal and to many, is not considered a drug.
I’ve had illegal drug users quit their drug of choice and turn to alcohol.
I’ve had alcoholics quit drinking and go to a 12-step program to maintain sobriety, but smoke pot.
Alcohol, the most abused drug, is best described in the following which was anonymously written:
I am more powerful than the combined armies of the world;
I have destroyed more men than all the wars of the nation;
I have caused millions of accidents and wrecked more homes than all the floods, tornadoes and hurricanes put together;
I am the world’s slickest thief; I steal billions of dollars each year;
I find my victims among the rich and poor alike, the young and the old, the strong and the weak;
I loom up to such proportions that I cast a shadow over every field of labor;
I am relentless, insidious, unpredictable;
I am everywhere – in the home, on the street, in the factory, in the office, on the sea and in the air;
I bring sickness, poverty and death;
I am nothing and take all;
I am your worst enemy;
I am ALCOHOL.
