LAPLACE — A man shot and killed last weekend in LaPlace may be the victim of domestic violence, authorities said.
Ian Robertson, 33, of Lutcher died Sunday at the hospital, just an hour after authorities found him shot on the ground.
“It appears this incident could be domestic,” St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said Tuesday morning, adding the victim and shooter definitely knew each other. “This was not a random act.”
Tregre said detectives are waiting on forensic testing results to aid in the investigation.
No suspects have been announced.
Robertson’s death is the sixth killing of the year in St. John Parish, and the investigation began Sunday when deputies responded to the intersection of Revere Drive and Essex Drive at 12:35 a.m. Sunday in LaPlace following a call that someone had been shot.
“Deputies arrived to find a male subject with a gunshot wound and admitted CPR to the victim until EMTs arrived,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “The victim was transported to River Parishes Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at 1:35 a.m.”
Authorities said no one else was injured in the shooting.
Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting is encouraged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
Those with information who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify in court and may qualify for a cash reward.
