LAPLACE — St. Charles Catholic kicked off its volleyball season with a victory Tuesday, besting West St. John in a tight five-game set, 22-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-12 and 15-12.
Kristen Remondet led the Comets in kills and aces for the game.
“I felt we played very well,” St. Charles coach Meghan Ericksen said. “At the times they’d usually get down on themselves they were able to push through and that’s really when we made our runs. They got ahead of us a few times and we were able to cut it down and give ourselves a chance.”
Ericksen has been especially pleased with how her team has played defensively early in the season.
“We don’t have much height, so we have to really be a scrappy team,” Ericksen said. “We’ve been very good at picking the ball up, so that’s been a plus.”
St. Charles returns to action today at the Assumption tournament. On Monday, SCC will host Lutcher, with J.V. action beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity following.
