DES ALLEMANDS — The Des Allemands Bridge in St. Charles Parish will start a period of extended opening Monday.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced the move, saying the bridge will open at 5 a.m. Monday and remain in that position for approximately 60 days during a shoreline protection project headed by St. John the Baptist Parish.
During this time, there will be no vehicular traffic permitted.
Vehicles can detour the area via U.S. 90.
The work being performed is part of a Louisiana Coastal Impact Assistance Program grant awarded to St. John in 2012.
The project will add 5,500 linear feet of shoreline protection at West Lac Des Allemands and reinforce the shoreline between Pleasure Bend and Pointe Aux Herbes.
The work is intended to protect the shoreline and adjacent properties from the dangers of continued erosion.
