Angela Davis, a teacher at Garyville-Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School, has been named a finalist for 2015 State Teacher of the Year.
Davis is one of only 10 teachers in Louisiana to receive this recognition. She will be honored along with the other finalists and semi-finalists when the State Teacher of the Year is named July 12 at the 8th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Symposium and Celebration in Baton Rouge.
“We are proud — but not surprised — that Angela Davis has been named a finalist for State Teacher of the Year,” St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District Superintendent Kevin George said. “Mrs. Davis is dedicated to her students and to her profession and is an excellent representation of the kind of educators we have in St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools.”
Davis, a third-grade teacher, is the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District’s Elementary School Teacher of the Year. She received her bachelor of science in elementary education from Southern University in Baton Rouge.
Educators selected as finalists demonstrated their ability to implement rigorous instructional practices and positively impact student growth at their schools, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.
