LAPLACE — A local charity, Housing Outreach Ministries, recently announced it has opened up its program to assist victims of human trafficking in addition to assisting veterans and victims of domestic abuse.

The program is based in St. Charles Parish but is expanding services to the entire River Region.

Director Lisa Carey said the program offers homeless veterans and victims a unique chance to regain their footing in society with the help of a shared living situation.

Carey said her organizations aim to provide people with “safe community-based, affordable housing and get them permanently placed.”

Carey has enlisted the help of former Saints players Tyrone Hughes and Roman Harper to endorse Housing Outreach Ministries. The program provides more than just housing, as tenants are linked to intensive case management, support services and treatment. The program works with people individually to help them develop a plan to put their lives back together.
