A fitting start to Holy Thursday

People often ask where I find material to write about twice a week. I have to admit that I have rerun some articles to which people have responded favorably.
This week, being Holy Week, I in–tend—-ed to repeat an Easter message of years past. That idea was replaced after I attended an early morning men’s Bible sharing meeting in Grand Point.
With 23 men in attendance at 5:15 a.m. and everyone given an opportunity to share what was on their minds and in their hearts, “Fatty” Kliebert asked that the lights be turned off. In total darkness and silence, he said, “Let’s close our eyes and try to imagine what took place on Calvary.” After a moment of complete silence, “Fatty” began to sing:
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Sometimes it makes me tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to a tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to a tree?
Sometimes it makes me tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in a tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in a tomb?
Sometimes it makes me tremble, tremble, tremble.
The experience lasted maybe three minutes. When the lights were turned on there was a more powerful sober spirit in the group.
I’ve been to many religious services and different church activities, but never have I been touched more than Thursday morning in Grand Point. With more than 500,000 churches in America, this Easter Sunday none of them will have more of the presence of the Holy Spirit than we had that morning.
What a great way to start off a day!
