ST. JAMES – After speaking with teachers and principals to better understand the needs of classrooms in Louisiana, The Supriya Jindal Foundation decided to invest in hands-on tools for classrooms. The “School Surprise” program provides pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms with “center” related tools to aid in the education of the state’s young students.
The Foundation, with the help of Union Pacific, recently awarded classroom enrichment tools to both of the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms at Fifth Ward Elementary School. The school’s library also received an interactive whiteboard for all students at Fifth Ward to enjoy. The award package for the library included: a laptop, a Promethean interactive whiteboard with speaker system, an interactive response system that will allow students to actively participate in the lesson, all installation and instructor training.
Jindal said, “Establishing a strong foundation for our students to build upon is so very important – we all want to ensure our students master the basics of reading, writing and math. Thus, the Foundation has decided to award pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms with hands-on enrichment tools and the library with an interactive whiteboard to further aid in our students’ mastery of core subjects.”
She continued, “The Foundation is proud to partner with Union Pacific, who helped to make this award possible for Fifth Ward Elementary. With hard work, we believe we have the opportunity to make a lasting and positive difference in education.”
Union Pacific believes that the quality of life in the communities in which its employees live and work is an integral part of its own success. Partnering with the Supriya Jindal Foundation to bring enrichment tools and technology to Fifth Ward Elementary, where so many of our past and present employee’s children and grandchildren have attended, is an honor and makes it a perfect fit,” said Drew Tessier, director of public affairs for Union Pacific.
