UPTOWN – St. Charles Catholic look to get off to a fast start on the road for the first time this season, and that’s exactly what the Comets did  Friday night in a 50-6 District 11-3A blowout of Lusher.
The victory  is the Comets’ first on the road after losing their previous three to top contenders East Jefferson, East Ascension and John Curtis.
“We had three real tough games on the road,” said SCC coach Frank Monica after the victory, “I thought that it was very important that tonight we came out and played well.”

And play well they did. The Comets took a 43-0 lead into half time after an explosive 28-point second quarter.

Austin Weber had a a touchdown pass to Brady Becker on the Comets’ first offensive possession, and they never looked back from there. Weber finished the night with a rushing touchdown as well.
Erron Lewis also joined on the scoring finding the end zone three times as he led the team with 141 rushing yards in the process.

The Comet defense held Lusher quarterbacks to 88 yards passing and and a total of 145 total yards on the evening. Conner Western also came up with an interception.

The St. Charles special teams also came up big starting most of their possessions in Lusher territory. Punt returner Eric Lewis also had an electrifying 45-yard run back in the second quarter.

“We played on a short field, and we took advantage of that.” said Monica, “so we really need to put it all together, Offense, defense, and special teams for us to be a competitor.”

St. Charles improves to 6-3 on the season finish after a 1-2 start. The Comets finish district play 3-1 with their only loss coming to perennial powerhouse John Curtis.
