ST. JAMES – A St. James man was killed and three others seriously injured when two vehicles struck head-on in St. James Parish on Sunday evening.
According to reports by Louisiana State Police, a 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by Julio Cuxum, 32, of Baton Rouge was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 18, approaching a right curve in the road. As the Liberty exited the right curve in the road, it entered the northbound lane and struck a 2004 Infinity I35 head on that was traveling north on Highway 18.
The Infinity was driven by Antonio Harrison, 52, of St. James. Harrison, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office.  Cuxum, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales with serious injuries. Two passengers in the Infinity, who were not wearing seat belts, were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
The crash is currently under investigation. Alcohol use is suspected to be factor in the crash for Cuxum. Blood was drawn from Cuxum; test results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Cuxum was arrested and transported to the St. James Parish Jail. He was charged with two counts of negligent injuring, driving with no license, driving on the wrong side of the road and vehicular homicide.
