Horace “Stump” “Smokey” Lumar was born on Sept. 26, 1947. He was the son of the late Odell Lumar Sr. and Lucille Johnson Lumar. He was a native of Edgard and resided in St. James. Lumar departed this earth on Thursday, July 25, 2013.
Horace was the brother of Odell Lumar Jr., of Vacherie; Adam Lumar and Betty Lumar Bailey, of Edgard; Marva Lumar, of LaPlace. He was preceded in death by siblings Albert “Sonny” Lumar, Laura Mae Lumar Harrison, Carolyn Miller Lumar, Alvin Lumar and Leonard Lumar.
He married Delores Sutherland Lumar of St. James. Their union produced six children: Reginald Lumar, Dedra Lumar Hudgins, Stacy Lumar, Tracy Lumar Smith, Marilyn Lumar Johnson and Carolyn Lumar. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
All neighboring churches, employers and employees of these family members are invited to attend services, which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at 11 a.m.
