The River Parishes Hospital Auxiliary recently awarded scholarships to three exemplary high school seniors: Reena Wadhwa, a student at St. Charles Catholic High School; Marissa Aucoin, a student at Hahnville High School; and Brandy Schanwath, a student at Lutcher High School. Each student received a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Each year, the Auxiliary holds fundraisers to benefit their scholarsip fund. They also received donations this year from the River Parishes Hospital Medical Staff, Roussel’s Fine Jewelry and Gifts, Geaux for the Gold, Walmart Supercenter, A Perfect Nail Day Spa and Spectacular Tubers. In April, the group mails letters to all area high schools inviting qualified students who plan to pursue a health career to apply. Winners are selected based on their academic achievements, personal goals and aspirations for the future.
“As the community hospital for the River Parishes area, we want to help area students fulfill their goals of becoming healthcare professions,” said Tammy Waltz, community relations coordinator. “We hope these students achieve their goals and may one day become employees of River Parishes Hospital.”
