LAPLACE – Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated an early morning crash in St. John the Baptist Parish that claimed the lives of two juveniles, Darquell Scott and Daryell Johnson.
The crash occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday. Preliminary investigation revealed that Daris Scott of LaPlace was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro on Louisiana Highway 44, just east of Louisiana Highway 54. Scott lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, ran off the road to the left and struck a tree.
Daris Scott and front seat passenger Angel Scott, also of LaPlace, were properly restrained and suffered only minor injuries. Both were transported to Ochsner Hospital.
The two rear-seat passengers, Darquell Scott, 10, and Daryell Johnson, 15, were not wearing seat belts. They were both pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Impairment is unknown; blood was drawn from Daris Scott and a toxicology analysis will be conducted by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab
