Sheriff investigating parking lot assault

LAPLACE – A LaPlace woman reported an assault in the parking lot of a business located in the 1600 block of West Airline Highway on Tuesday evening.
The 32-year-old woman told investigators she and her 7-year-old son were in the parking lot getting into their car when a man jumped on her lap and into the passenger seat of the car. She fled from the car, but the perpetrator chased her and threw her to the ground. When she started screaming loudly for help, he fled the area on foot, and she drove her car to the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters for help.
The victim sustained a split lip during the incident, and her son sustained a small bump on his forehead. Both victims were treated on the scene and declined transportation to a hospital.
The victim described the perpetrator as a younger male subject wearing a black shirt, black jeans and a multi-colored beanie.
