LAPLACE – On Friday at 6:54 p.m., St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reports of a shooting in the area of Bailey Lane and East Sixth Street in Edgard.

When deputies arrived in the area, they found a male subject on Katrina Lane with a shotgun wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified as Casimere August Jr., 50, of Lapey Lane in Edgard. No one else was injured.

Information led investigators to the suspect who was identified as Darrell Williams, 20. He was located in his residence at 110 Tigerville Loop.

Williams was arrested and booked with second-degree murder for the murder of August. Although the suspect was arrested, the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

The homicide is the fifth homicide in St. John the Baptist Parish this year.
