On Jan. 9, 2013, Rita Simpson Roussel, born Jan. 7, 1929, closed her eyes for the last time.

She was the proud bearer of four sons: Douglas (Sheila), Kevin, Kim/Bo (Melanie), Todd/ZB(Sandy) and one daughter, Mindy (John Kelly).

Her full time occupations included: nurse, accountant, chef, domestic engineer and sanitary specialist, serving her husband of 44 years, the late Earl “Y.O.” Roussel, and aforementioned children. Rita worked part-time for many years as secretary for the Red Cross as a St. James Parish voter registration clerk. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church.

Her babysitting clients were her 12 Roussel grandchildren: Chad, Tiffany, Seth, Marc, Jeffrey, Haley, Corey, Ryan, Troy, Brennon, Adam and Shea; and three Coulon grandchildren: Cody, Dusty and Abbey. When time and health allowed, 15 great- grandchildren were also tended to.

Rita leaves behind one sister, Carol Ann Burns.

She joins other family members in passing, including her husband, Y.O.; parents: Chester and Ethel Simpson; and siblings: Elvin, Malcolm and Ray Simpson and Nita Gautreau.

A celebration will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina on Saturday, Jan.12, 2013, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the church mausoleum.
