Seven Girl Scout Cadettes from St. Charles Parish recently earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a registered Girl Scout Cadette in grades 6-8 can achieve. They are Coya Hurst, Cassidy Lewis, Mignon Mauduit, Elaine Mitchell, Aisosa Ogunbor, Lindsey Rhodes and Laura Sullivan of Destrehan Girl Scout Cadette Troop 21448. Earning the Girl Scout Silver Award exemplifies a Girl Scout’s commitment to helping others and making a difference in their community. The Girl Scout Silver Award requires the completion of a series of leadership challenges that prepares them for their final “take action” project that involves approximately 50 hours of work.
The Girl Scout Cadettes decided to see if they could stop the stereotypes by creating a video whose message is to watch your words as they can hurt others, even if it wasn’t meant that way. Their Take Action Project advisor was DeAnn Sullivan.
The Girl Scouting mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. For more information about Girl Scouts or adult volunteer opportunities in St. Charles Parish, call the council office at 800-644-7571 or visit its website at www.gsle.org.
