LAPLACE – Louisiana State Police say two suspects have been shot and killed in a shooting involving St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Deputies.

Detectives and first responders are on the scene at Coosie RV Park  On Stephens Drive in Reserve. They are working to investigate the shooting in the midst of Hurricane Isaac approaching.

The suspects, Robert Prine, 50, and Deborah Prine, 42, were taken to River Parishes Hospital after the shooting, which happened just before 6:30 said State Police Trooper Melissa Matey. Both suspects died at the hospital.

St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said his officers were called to the scene for a report of a disturbance. He said when they arrived they found a man and a woman involved in a confrontation involving a weapon. Tregre would not say what that weapon was.

“My officers responded and instructed the individual to put the weapon down,” Tregre said. “The person refused to do that.”

Tregre said the individual with the weapon began to approach the officers, who fired at the person.

“The second person was also armed and came toward officers, who responded with their duty weapons,” Tregre said.

Just two weeks ago, two deputies were shot and two were killed in St. John Parish.

No deputies have been reported injured. The investigation is still active and Hurricane Isaac is hampering the investigation, according to Tregre.
