LAPLACE – It seems the disused site that was Vacherie Primary School may have finally found a buyer.

When the St. James Parish School Board meets on Tuesday, Administrative Director of Business Services Jim Mitchell will present the board with the bids for the property. The property has been for sale for some time now, and the district recently re-advertised for bids after cutting the asking price.

The property became surplus when the district consolidated Vacherie Primary and Vacherie Elementary schools.

The board will also get a pair of reports concerning tax revenue in the parish. Assessor Glenn Waguespack will discuss ad valorem taxes—taxes related to personal property while Neshelle Nogess will discuss sales and use taxes. The parish had an extraordinary month in terms of sales tax revenue in July.

Also Tuesday, the school board will consider bids for classroom and media center additions at Paulina Elementary School. With the start of the current school year, Paulina Elementary gained dozens of new students who came from the now-closed Romeville Elementary School.

Finally, the board will consider the hiring of a human resources consultant. That person will assist in setting up a new salary schedule for the district. Part of the recently passed education legislation, all districts must have a new salary schedule that adhere to current regulations in place by the end of 2012.

The school board will meet in its regular meeting room at 1876 W. Main St. in Lutcher at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
