LAPLACE – Only five days have passed since the beginning of the 2012 Hurricane season and it appears as though the majority of residents in the River Parishes are ready for whatever the season may bring.
Last week’s L’Observateur online poll asked residents how preparations were going with the start of hurricane season this past Friday. More than 60 percent of those who responded said they were completely prepared for the season already. Another 8 percent said they were just short of a few supplies. The early prep could be a good thing considering the season started early with a pair of storms along the east coast.
A small contingent of residents, about 15 percent, said they do not seriously prepare until a storm gets into the Gulf of Mexico. An even smaller number of residents said they were not prepared at all.
A complete breakdown of results is as follows:
• 8 percent of respondents said, “I have to get a few remaining supplies to be ready.”
• 64 percent of respondents said, “I’m completely prepared for another hurricane season.”
• 16 percent of respondents said, “I don’t seriously prepare until I see a storm in the gulf.”
• 14 percent of respondents said, “I’m not ready at all.”
