LAPLACE – A 17-year-old LaPlace girl told St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputies she was assaulted Tuesday evening by a group of teenagers in front of a home in LaPlace.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to the 2200 block of Greenwood Drive at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday for a report of subjects fighting in the area. Witnesses told deputies a group of teenagers had gotten out of a car and began fighting with the 17-year-old.

Deputies found the girl at the scene with facial lacerations suffered in the fight. She was transported to River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace for treatment. The other teens involved in the fight had fled the scene before deputies arrived, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Clement said the victim told deputies three girls and a male confronted her. The male and one of the females encouraged the other two to fight with her. The victim was punched and cut with unknown sharp objects. No one else was injured.

Clement said the victim was able to name her assailants, but authorities do not know why the fight ensued. Authorities have identified suspects and are conducting interviews, but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call St. John the Baptist Parish detectives at 985-359-8769.
