Charles “Buddy” Ray Simon Sr. of Destrehan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at the age of 82 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the beloved husband and best friend of 60 years to Loretta Rousselle Simon and devoted father of Charles “Chipper” Simon (Peggy), Linda Famularo (Kerry), Glenda Simon, Susan Lowry (Johnny), David Simon (Karla), Paul Simon (Kathleen) and Sharon Nicosia (Jeff). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who all were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noemie Weber Simon and Edwin George Simon, sister Betty Simon Hatfield and brother Edwin Simon.
He is also survived by a brother, Ronnie Simon of Seminole, Fla.
Buddy graduated from Destrehan High School, proudly served in the Korean Conflict, was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Archdiocese of New Orleans Award and was an active member of the American Legion Post 195 and VFW Post 3337. He also served as a Red Cross volunteer and devoted several hours a week to working with the “Sacred Heart Yard Boys.” Buddy retired from Shell Oil Company after 42 years of service. He fully enjoyed family gatherings and sports, especially golf in his later years. He enjoyed meeting veterans, exercising, the outdoors and traveling.
He lived life to its fullest and never met a stranger.
Visitation and services were held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012. Military honors immediately followed at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations in Buddy’s name to the American Legion Post 195, 521 Fourth St., Norco, LA 70079, are preferred. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses of River Region Hospice.
