LAPLACE – Detectives in St. John the Baptist Parish continued to pursue information Tuesday that could lead to the suspect or suspects responsible for the parish’s first homicide of the year, authorities said.

Capt Dane Clement, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said detectives have not established a motive or suspects in the death of 23-year-old Kevin Ferrygood of Garyville, who was shot and killed Saturday evening.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to calls of gunshots near the intersection of South Fig Street and Daisy Street just after 9 p.m. Saturday and found Ferrygood lying in the road with several gunshot wounds. Clement said Ferrygood was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six people were murdered in St. John Parish in 2011, and one of those was in Garyville, when a LaPlace man was gunned down on Dec. 18, 2011.

Ferrygood had a criminal record in St. John Parish that included arrests for drug possession and battery charges. His most recent arrest came in 2010, when he was booked on aggravated battery charges after a shooting in Garyville that injured a 21-year-old man.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to call St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives at 985-652-6338 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
