On Dec. 17, 2011, two local businesses combined forces to help bring cheer into the lives of some of the children of St. Charles Parish. This charitable event gave toys to those who might not otherwise find the “Season of Giving” quite so generous. G. Smith Motorsports and St. Rose Travel Center, both located on Airline Drive in St. Rose, held a Christmas party to help others celebrate the holidays. In addition to toys given out by Santa, children were able to participate in crafts, face painting and take pictures with Jolly Ol’ St. Nick. Food and drinks were also provided on this day of merriment. The party itself was held in the Palmettos Restaurant, which was festively adorned for the season. A list of names were provided by local organizations that maintain information regarding those who are in need in the parish.
The owners of the two businesses realized three years ago that they felt a personal responsibility to help bring joy into the lives of their neighbors. That is when they started their annual party for less fortunate children. Over 200 children were invited to participate and over 130 attended, along with some of the owners of the businesses and a few of their staff who helped make the event a success.
