East St. John is attempting to regroup before district play begins Tuesday after going 1-3 in its most recent stretch of play.
The Ladycats (10-10) earned a dominating win over West Feliciana at last weekend’s St. Amant tournament, 51-27, but fell in other tourney games to Plaquemine and Assumption.
The Wildcats also fell behind defending 3A champion St. James early en route to a 50-29 loss Wednesday.
St. James’ defense was suffocating in the first half against East St. John, holding ESJ to just seven first half points against 20 of their own. ESJ stayed within reach until the fourth quarter, when St. James outscored ESJ 21-12 to close things out.
Korielle Tucker and Shakira Braxton each scored 16 to lead St. James. Kemyra Arvie led East St. John with 10 points. Brishane Haynes scored eight and Keyvin Parker added seven.
Against Plaquemine, ESJ led by four in the fourth quarter but saw the Green Devils rally for a 55-52 victory.
Arvie led ESJ with 13. Da’Rae Taylor added seven.
In the team’s win over West Feliciana, ESJ went ahead 21-4 early and coasted from there. Taylor scored 10 and Alexis Stipe scored eight.
Jasmine Mills led Assumption with 31 points in ESJ’s final game of the St. Amant tourney, a 52-44 loss. Arvie scored 11 for ESJ. Haynes added 11 and Parker scored 10.
