RESERVE — Riverside’s Jordan Duhon scored a combined six goals in a pair of recent victories before the Lady Rebels soccer team fell in a tough match to a highly ranked foe Monday.
Riverside defeated Walker, 4-1, on Dec. 23 and Northlake Christian, 3-1, Wednesday. Monday saw Riverside fall to Catholic-New Iberia, 2-0, a team that entered the game ranked within the top five in Division III.
“It was a good performance,” said Riverside coach Stephen Millet, whose team moved to 8-7-2 with the loss. “I thought we controlled most of the first half, but we had difficulty finishing. We got ourselves in position but couldn’t find the goal to cap it off.”
Catholic scored its first goal five minutes in, then got its second to seal things with 10 minutes left in the match.
Riverside had just 12 girls in uniform for the game, and the highly competitive performance in spite of that was something Millet said spoke well of his players.
Against Northlake Christian, Duhon scored two goals and Shelby Deslatte scored another.
That game came on the heels of a four-goal performance against Walker for Duhon, who Millet said is seeing the results of her hard work each day in practice.
“She definitely strives for this,” said Millet. “She works hard. Jordan is really learning how to strike correctly, and she can hit from distance, a big plus.”
Walker scored first in the Dec. 23 match, and Millet said it took awhile for the Rebels to get rolling.
“We settled down though,” said Millet. “We weren’t finishing there at first, either. But Jordan started finding the corners and we had some success.”
