Reserve – The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board announced the winners of its district-wide Christmas Card Contest at its meeting on Dec. 1.

The winning art design submitted for the contest has been printed into a Christmas card and will be used by the school board to spread holiday cheer throughout the parish this Christmas season.

“This is always a very popular contest for our students and it’s a great way for our district to showcase the tremendous artistic talent we have in our schools,” Superintendent Courtney Millet said. “I want to congratulate all our participants and encourage all our students to continue to develop their artistic abilities.”

The 2011 winners are:

• Terius Taranto, sixth grader at Emily C. Watkins Elementary, and Kaley Clayton, a sixth grader at East St. John Elementary, tied for third place.

• Ciara Sander, senior at East St. John High, won second place.

• Lori Chen, eighth-grader at LaPlace Elementary, received first place and her design will be featured on this year’s school board Christmas card.
