Local nominated for two Emmys

Chrissy Carter, a life long resident of LaPlace and the reigning St. John Sugar Queen, has recently been nominated for two “2011 Suncoast Emmy” awards. She is a junior at Southeastern Louisiana University where she studies mass communication and electronic media. Carter is employed as a student reporter and anchor for the Southeastern Channel. Her stories “Ebooks” and the “Children’s Discovery Center” were both chosen as nominees for the catergory Student Production (College) – News. She wrote, reported and edited both stories, which appeared on the Southeastern program “Northshore News.”

Carter also hosted the show “Cinematheque” and impersonates Sarah Palin and Britney Spears on the entertainment show “College Night.”

She is the recipient of a First Place Mark of Excellence award for Best in South General News Story from the Society of Professional Journalist and is featured on WAFB’s website. The Southeastern Channel and the students are nominated for a record seven Emmy awards. Carter stated that the Southeastern Channel has taught her everything she knows about broadcasting and without their guidance and encouragement this would have not been possible.

Carter will be attending the 2011 Suncoast Emmy’s Gala in Fort Lauderdale with her parents Dec. 3.
