She received a degree in mass communication from Nicholls State University, where she served as editor of the Nicholls Worth for two years. Marie earned her masters degree in journalism from the University of Louisiana Lafayette. She also taught religion and English. Marie was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace.

Marie lived her life with joy and enthusiasm. She and her husband Mickey enjoyed going to LSU football games, local festivals and dining with and playing games with their many friends. Marie also loved writing, photography, arts, crafts, anything fleur de lis and butterflies. An energetic and responsible worker, Marie worked throughout her student years at Ace Hardware, the Donut Hole, Riverlands Country Club and for the Zephyrs Baseball organization. From her teenage years until the time of her death, Marie frequently babysat the children of relatives and friends, all of whom lovingly called her Rie Rie. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
