LAPLACE – When it comes to celebrating the ringing in of a new year, folks in the River Parishes tend to fall into two categories: those who like it loud and those who keep it quiet, based on final results in last week’s L’Observateur online poll.

Visitors to www.lobservateur.com last week were asked to give their favorite way to celebrate the coming of a new year. Nearly 40 percent of those who voted said they do it up loud by shooting off fireworks at a neighborhood party.

Meanwhile, another 36 percent of those who voted say they prefer to celebrate with a quiet evening at home with a loved one. In addition to that figure, another 18 percent said they just don’t do anything at all on New Year’s Eve.

Very few, if any, choose to venture out to bars, clubs, parties, or festivities in New Orleans for New Year’s Eve. Those options garnered little support, according to final poll figures.

A complete breakdown of the results follows below:

• 39 percent of respondents chose “I like to shoot off fireworks.”

• 36 percent of respondents chose “I like to spend a quiet evening with a loved one.”

• 18 percent of respondents chose “I don’t do anything.”

• 4 percent of respondents chose “I like to go to bars or parties.”

• 3 percent of respondents chose “I like to go to New Orleans to watch the ball drop.”
