West St. John succumbed to a serious case of Deja’Vu in Friday night’s first-round game at White Castle, where they fell to the Bulldogs for the second time in three weeks, this time by a final score of 12-0 in another low-scoring slobber-knocker.

Tyree Brackins returned to play spoiler to the Rams yet again, amassing 72 yards on 22 carries and a pair of touchdowns, the only scores either team would manage all night long. Even the plodding tempo of the game mirrored the two teams’ earlier encounter.

The first score came halfway through the first quarter when Brackins rushed for a twenty-five yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 early. That score remained static until late in the third quarter when Brackins scored again, this time on a two yard run.

Both defenses kept their offensive counter-points stymied throughout the evening, with neither team gaining more than 150 yards of total offense and both committing a pair of turnovers.

Although West St. John was able to contain Ronald Martin all night long, they too were contained throughout the game. Mark Wright completed only 5 passes for 30 yards and an interception. The Rams’ running game was also held in check, gaining under 75 yards on the evening. Unable to reach the red zone at any point during the game, the visitors failed to even provide a threat to their host rivals.

“Our defense showed up in a big way tonight”, said White Castle head coach Ferrante Dominique. “We need to continue building on that as we look ahead”.

The game was a sloppy affair, riddled with 20 combined penalties committed in the game. A couple even prevented big plays, most notably, a sixty-four yard Ronald Martin touchdown run which would have put the Bulldogs up by an even larger first quarter lead.

Though the playoffs have ended early for West St. John, White Castle will head on the road next week to take on number two seeded Block.
