Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery for Carrie Newman, 87, the former Carrie Fuselier, who passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at 9:15 p.m. at her home in Carencro. A celebration of her life will follow at their residence.
Newman was a native of Mamou and was the youngest child of Henry and Hattie Fuselier. After graduating from Mamou High School, Carrie ventured off to Beaumont, Texas, where she worked until entering the Navy in 1944. She was a WWII veteran and served as Seaman First Class while stationed at Glenview Naval Air Station located just outside Chicago. Carrie spent most of her adult life traveling the globe with her family while her husband was a career officer in the Army. After living in numerous locations, she and her husband settled in LaPlace in 1970, where they resided until they moved to Carencro in 2006. Her favorite past time centered around her family, which included four children, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Stewart; three sons, Bob and his wife, Jacque, of Baton Rouge, Ron and his wife, Paula, of Carencro, and Donnie of Gulfport, Miss.; one daughter, Rena’ Sutton and her husband, Charles “Juicy” of Reserve; nine grandchildren, Stacy Newman DePascal, Jennifer Newman Ewing, Candace Roy, Brad Newman, Brittney Robillard, Lacy Ann Sutton, Stacy Lynn Sutton, Chelsea Rena Sutton, and Garrett Taylor; five grea-grandchildren, Devin DePascal, Derin DePascal, Alexis Breaux, Alyssa Ewing and Mia Ewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Fuselier and the former Hattie Manual; four brothers, Harry Fuselier, Edward Fuselier, Lee Fuselier and Leslie Fuselier; and one sister, Zoe Fuselier.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana. They wish to extend their sincere love and gratitude to her personal caregivers and friends (Sandra, Bernadette, Jasmine, Eva and Laurie).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in the name of Carrie Fuselier Newman may be made to Hospice of Acadiana.
