LAPLACE — District season is over for St. Charles. The Comets are now in tune-up mode.

After wrapping up at least second place in District 10-2A (a share of the district title is still technically in play, but would take an unlikely Lusher victory over John Curtis to come to fruition) with a 56-0 win over Thomas Jefferson, St. Charles (8-1, 5-1) turns its attention to visiting Class 4A Lakeshore.

Lakeshore is in its first year of varsity play after playing a junior varsity schedule a year ago. It has gone 2-4 so far this season.

Because former 9-2A competitor Douglass dropped its athletic program, schools in the district like St. Charles were left scrambling for an opponent during district season. Lakeshore picked up many of those games; this will be the fourth game the team has played against a District 9-2A school. Lakeshore lost to Riverside (57-21) and Newman (42-7) but defeated Lusher (48-14).

“They’re very athletic,” said St. Charles coach Frank Monica. “There’s 24 juniors on that team and they’re pretty good players. They’ve been in that system for awhile now and they can score quickly … it’s a big play offense.”

The game will count for power points against a 4A school. But Monica said that this game is about gearing up for the playoffs and not falling into the trap of “bracket watching”.

“You don’t want to limp in,” Monica said. “We have a job to do. A win puts us a 9-1, and given what the predictions were in the preseason, that would be a big accomplishment for our program.”

St. Charles outgained Thomas Jefferson 300-27 on Friday night, dominating in all phases.

Marcus Hall scored two touchdowns on the night, including the first, an 11-yard first quarter run. Donnie Savoie threw two first quarter touchdown passes, one to John Wood (26 yards) and the next to Sammy Miller (18 yards). Lazedrick Thompson also scored from 31 yards away, and eighth grader Ahmani Martin scored twice for St. Charles.

Defensively a number of Comets shined, including Ross Authement, who forced two turnovers.

SCC led 49-0 at halftime and 28-0 after the first quarter.
