DHS student of the year

Destrehan High School Student of the Year is Derrel Wilright. Wilright is the son of Valerie and Derwin Wilright Sr. of St. Rose. Wilright earned honor roll each semester for the past four years. He has been a Destrehan Honor Scholar for four years, earning “Honors Student of the Month” recognition in 2009-2010.
He has also been a member of ROTC for four years, serving as an officer in 2009-2010, and was an ROTC Honors Summer Camp participant. He is a Top 10 Officer this year. Wilright has been a member of the Interact Club for four years, a Principal’s Scholar, Mu Alpha Theta member, National Society of High School Scholars member and a Beta member for three years.
He is the president of Beta this year. He has been a National Honors Society member, a Kick-Off Mentor and an Audubon Zoo volunteer for two years. Wilright has also participated in the Culture Club, Stomp Team, Key Club and SADD for one year. He also attended Louisiana Boys State in 2010. Wilright plans to attend LSU to study Veterinary Science.
