laplace – River Parishes Hospital recently named Gregory Collins, MD as its Doctor of the Month for the month of August. Collins was presented with a Doctor of the Month plaque by Interim Chief Executive Officer Michael Burroughs.

All physicians on staff at River Parishes Hospital are eligible for this recognition. Each month, one physician is selected based on his or her positive attitude, recognized skills as a physician, excellent interactions with patients and staff, and willingness to go the “extra mile” to help patients and staff.

Collins is an emergency medicine physician. He has been on staff at the hospital for nearly 10 years. He is currently on staff through the Schumacher Group, an emergency medicine practice management company located in Lafayette.

Collins received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed an internship and two-year residency in surgery at Tulane University affiliated hospitals. He is board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been practicing Emergency Medicine exclusively for 25 years.

“Dr. Collins is compassionate and thorough with his patients as he

sits at the bedside and takes the necessary time to listen to each patient’s concerns,” said Teresa Bovia, nurse manager of the Emergency Department. “He consistently has high patient satisfaction scores in the Emergency Department.”

Collins and his wife reside in Kenner with their two children.
