On Sunday, July 25, Juan Ramirez celebrated his 90th birthday at a party hosted by his wife, Dixie, and his three children, Ann Talbot, Ginger Simon and David Hodge. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Juan and Dixie have a total of four children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was born in Belize, Central America, and has been a resident of LaPlace for the past 30 years. He and his wife owned Southwestern Title until they both retired and sold the business. He is a member of Msgr. Bergeron Knights of Columbus Council 5935 and also a member of the fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He is presently serving on the Board of Directors for the St. John Parish Senior Citizens Center. When asked about his secret for such a long life and his good health, he just smiled and said “You will not do what I have been doing all these years.”

He remarked later that everyone seemed to be having a good time, but of course anyone who knows Juan can understand why, as he likes to tell jokes and make everyone around him feel good and always have a good laugh. He said “What are we going to do next year?” On that he will just have to wait and see.
