The planned renovations of the former Leon Godchaux Junior High School football field have been put on hold, but not forgotten according to St. John Parish Recreation Board President Mike Tregre.

The proposed refurbishments to the field have been halted as the School Board seeks to get its budget under control.

But Tregre makes clear that the project is still very much on the minds of all involved.

“It’s something that is definitely needed, and everyone knows it must be done,” said Tregre. “A lot of people are very committed to seeing this happen.

“It’s something that will happen. I just can’t say when that will be just yet.”

In order to get the field up and running, Tregre said electricity and lights will be installed, concession stands will be made available and new field goal posts will be installed.

Tregre noted the success of some fundraisers to help toward the project, and also that a number of businesses have pledged to donate different things of use.

“Everyone’s in favor of it. We’ve just hit a temporary roadblock,” said Tregre.
