‘Driving Miss Daisy’ auditions

Director Jack Wilson is holding auditions on Sunday Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. If needed, call-backs will be held Monday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. Auditions will be held at Ascension Community Theatre at 823 N. Felicity St., Gonzales.

Casting will be for the following two roles:

Daisy Werthan – the ideal person for this role must be able to portray a woman age 72-97, with a Georgian accent.

Boolie Werthan – Daisy’s son, this actor must be able to portray a man age 40-65, also with a Georgian accent.

There will be no monologue required, just be prepared to read/perform scenes from the script. The role of the chauffer, Hoke Colburn, has been pre-cast. Local professional actor Oneal Issac has accepted the role and will be at auditions for readings. Rehearsals will start after the cast is announced. Actors should be prepared to rehearse five days a week. “Driving Miss Daisy” will take the stage on Sept. 16-18 and 23-25 at 7 p.m., with a Sunday matinee Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.

Written by Alfred Uhry, “Driving Miss Daisy” is the story of an elderly Southern Jewish-American woman and her African-American chauffeur.
