For Renee Laperyolerie, the apple doen’t fall far from the tree

The new Executive Director of the state’s Democratic Party is none other than Renee Lapeyrolerie, a St. John Parish native raised in Reserve. The family name has been a household name to all residents born in St. John.
Frank G. Lapeyrolerie, Renee’s grandfather (now deceased), was
a peaceful, active leader in the
Civil Right’s Movement. He was
one the organizers of St. John Parish’s Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was active in politics and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, leaving a legacy of integrity to his family. If you visit the Council on Aging in Reserve,
you’ll see his name on the front of the building,
recognizing his lifelong commitment to his community.
Renee’s father, Winthrop, passed away a few weeks ago. He and his wife, Dionne, were parents of eight children. Their oldest, Wendell, and my daughter, Ronny, were members of the first-grade class at St. Peter School, the first integrated class in St. John. Evidently, Wendell’s grandfather’s spirit of civil rights was handed down. Renee has a brother and sister who are medical doctors. Education was always the top priority of the family.
Being a registered Republican, my only concern about the new executive director is that she will do too good a job. Renee understands Louisiana politics and is considered a coalition builder and visionary.
Renee is a graduate of the Louisiana School of Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches.
With her public relations and communications degree from Loyola University, she began her career as a political consultant. She worked on U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu’s 2008 re-election campaign, Buddy Leach’s run for governor in 2003 and later on Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s campaign. She’s has also worked on campaigns involving then-Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, now the mayor of New Orleans, and has served as press secretary for two presidential campaigns in Louisiana.
It’s always exciting to hear about successful people that you know personally. Congratulations, Renee, and May God Bless You!
