Don’t focus on the problems, but find a solution

Americans are concerned about the economic and moral condition of this once great country. Wherever you go, people are talking about the problems and attributing them mainly to the politicians.

We blame them for the oil spill in the Gulf, the crime, the drug problem (you name it), and politicians get the blame. We also give some credit to the news media (liberal press) and the entertainment industry.

The other day, I was talking to a group of men, and the problems we face were the main topic. The majority was in agreement that there was enough blame to distribute among the aforementioned groups, but the focus was mainly on the politicians.

I’m amazed how people are familiar with all the problems but very seldom have a solution, so I decided to inject what I thought was the real problem in our country.

I said, “I believe it’s the condition of the churches in America that is responsible.” Needless to say, that got the men’s attention. I continued, “We have 500,000 churches in America. In St. John, we have approximately 65. If the churches in America were doing their jobs, we would have God-fearing men and women in public office, and God would have a protective shield over us.”

Many of the churches in America have become as liberal as the majority of the media. They have been drawn into competition to attract members to fill their churches, instead of representing the Almighty God about whom they preach.

Some pastors are quick to condemn their flock but hesitate to perform the duties they were supposedly called to do.

The Bible is not only written for the lay people but has very serious warnings for pastors.

One such is “Feed the flock of God; care for it willingly, not grudgingly; not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve the Lord.” I Peter 5:2

I’ve said enough about the problems, but the solution is so simple it confuses people. It’s found in II Chronicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
