Let your voice be heard this weekend

The freedoms we enjoy living in America have become privileges we are now taking for granted. One of those special rights is the right to vote.

This Saturday, 75 percent of the people of St. John the Baptist Parish will not participate in the election process to determine who will be the next parish president. Only one of every four registered voters are predicted to exercise their right to vote for the person who they think will best serve St. John the Baptist Parish.

My family and I will be in that number that not only votes but have been campaigning for the candidate of our choice. We will vote because it’s our duty as Americans living in a free country and to also honor the men and women who have fought and died protecting our freedom.

Will my vote make a difference? Yes it will. Regardless of the outcome of the election, I’ll feel good knowing that I got involved and let my voice be heard.

To the 75 percent of the voters who may decide to stay away from the polls, I ask that you refrain from criticizing whoever wins. You chose to sit on the sidelines and not participate in one of the most important activities in your life.

To the candidates who are seeking the presidency, I say thanks for giving us a choice. This election will determine what direction our parish will take.

I ask that every registered voter accept their responsibility as Americans and vote this Saturday for the person of their choice. Remember, it’s a freedom for which many people have paid the ultimate price.

May God Bless America!
