RESERVE – Riverside put on a show for its home fans on Tuesday night, setting a season-high in points in a 119-49 District 9-2A victory over St. Charles at Riverside.
Six Rebels (27-6, 4-0) scored in double figures: Ricardo Gathers (28), Cedric Jenkins (21) Louis Dabney (18), Donald Thomas (17), Lucas Gallina (16), and Ed Gallina (11).
Riverside led 29-14 after the first quarter and 58-19 at halftime.
The Rebels were on fire from the outside, hitting 15 3-pointers on the night.
“We’ve got 10 guys really doing a good job. We’re shooting it fairly well, but it’s all about playing with rhythm,” said Riverside coach Timmy Byrd.
“When we do, we’re hard to beat. When we don’t, things get left up to chance — a free throw, a call here or there.”
Byrd said this game was one of the first times this season he felt his team got into a good flow in the third quarter – Riverside’s 42 points in the period was also a season high.
“With the playoffs coming up, it was important to see that,” said Byrd, who pulled his starters after the third quarter.
“Everything clicked, we really got into that rhythm.”
John Williams led SCC (8-20, 1-3) with 12. Trenton Dunn scored eight.
