Saints provide common ground

It seems everywhere you turn these days one is reminded that on Sunday, the Saints will be playing in what is probably the biggest game of their existence.
And while in neighboring Mississippi, the birthplace of Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, many see the game as a win-win situation, the sentiment here is much more cut and dried. Purple, usually a popular team color in these parts, might not be the wisest fashion choice over the next couple of days. It would definitely stand out among the sea of black and gold that seems to stretch from the Mississippi border to at least Baton Rouge.
And perhaps that is the greatest victory in a season full of them (on the football field at least) in South Louisiana. The Saints have been able to do what countless politicians and civic leaders have not. For a few hours on Sunday evening the entire region will be united in one common cause – cheering Drew Brees and company onto victory and an appearance in Miami for Super Bowl XLIV.
By the way, next weekend’s edition of L’Observateur will feature a special keepsake tabloid commemorating the best Saints season ever. Just a little something to hold you over until Super Bowl Sunday.
GEAUX SAINTS!
