St. Charles finished play at the Rumble on the River tournament on a positive note Tuesday night, downing Ben Franklin 42-38 at the Alario Center.

It snapped a three game losing streak for SCC, with two of those losses coming at the Rumble tourney.

Dominique DiCarlo scored 17 points – her third double-digit scoring performance of the tournament — and Kacie Braud added 13 to lead the Comets (6-9). Emily Picciola chipped in eight.

“At the beginning of the tournament we struggled, especially still dealing with some players missing,” said SCC coach Kelly Cupit. “But we ended on a good note.”

Ben Franklin led by six after the first quarter, then pushed its lead to nine by halftime. The Comets seemed on their way to a fourth straight loss.

But things changed in the second half. SCC cut Ben Franklin’s lead to three entering the fourth quarter.

Then the Comets played s strong a defensive quarter as it has all season – it outscored the Falcons 11-4 to take a four point win.

“I feel like we played our best defensive game against them, especially in the second half,” said Cupit.

DiCarlo, Cupit said, was able to convert on some fast break opportunities in the fourth quarter to help SCC pull away.

“She got out ahead of everyone a few times and made some easy baskets,” said Cupit.

On Monday, SCC saw an early lead slip away in the second half as Caldwell captured a 38-33 win.

DiCarlo again led SCC with 12 points. Braud had 11. Picciola and Jaelen Bryant each added four.

SCC led by three at halftime, but Caldwell outscored the Comets 23-15 in the second half.

Sunday saw the Comets rematch with St. Martin’s.

The Saints defeated SCC prior to the tournament in Metairie last week.

The Saints opened up a big early lead at halftime, 22-5, and coasted to the win.

DiCarlo scored 10. Braud added eight.
